The Edge of the Sayable

Every system rich enough to describe itself meets a wall it cannot cross. A walk along the borders of what can be proved, computed, or said.

Move 17

returns of Move 1 — We arrive back at the first silence, now earned.

The honest system, then, learns to name its own edge, the way the Tractatus speaks to the border and, having said exactly that much, stops.

Move 18

reframes of Move 15 — We chart continents by mapping the coastlines we cannot cross.

And the edge turns out to be generative. Each proof of a limit opened a new continent: set theory from Cantor's paradoxes, computability from Turing's, complexity from the intractable.

Move 19

revises of Move 1 — The wall becomes a floor.

Whereof one cannot speak, there one builds a new language, and speaks a little further. The silence is not the end of the sentence; it is the start of the next one.

The dialogue is concluded

Every wall we proved became the floor of a larger room.
